Beloved Sonship
In this month's video, we named our true identity- our Creator's answer to our question, "Who am I?" That answer is, "You are my beloved son." Naming our true identity is just the tip of the iceberg; God has so much for us to encounter, experience, and transform into as he restores us to our Garden State. We invite you to begin the adventure of Sonship by considering what it means to you that you are God's beloved son.
- What from the video hit your heart or stuck out to you? Why?
- In your own words, who does God say you are? What does that mean to you?
- In your own words, what does it mean to be delighted in or beloved by someone? What does it mean to be a BELOVED son?
- Do you believe you are God's beloved son? Why or why not?
- Do you look to Jesus as your True Mentor? His life, beliefs, teachings, actions, etc.? Why or why not?
- Do you go to the Holy Spirit as your Guide? To help you navigate each day and connect with your heavenly Dad? Why or why not?
- Have you accepted God's call to beloved Sonship? His invitation to restore you into the son he made you to be? Why or why not?
- How does your imposter get in the way of you accepting that call? What magnets are you letting draw you away from God's view of you?
- What can you do to remove those magnets and accept your heavenly Dad's call to Sonship?
As I learn to live as a beloved son, I become a real man.
Remember, Sonship and manhood are linked. How we answer "Who am I?" determines the kind of man we become. At the Trailhead, we had you look at your life and define manhood based on your CHOICES or how you live. Now that we know Sonship is our true identity, we must ask, "How do I live as a son?" Only then can we understand what it means to be a real man.
Fortunately, we have a Mentor whose life can show us how to step into Sonship, so we want you to take some time to answer the same questions from the Trailhead. Instead of observing your life, we want you to look to Jesus as your ultimate example. If you can, read through these questions and answer them based on your current knowledge of Jesus' life. If you struggle with specific examples, maybe read through one of the Gospel accounts (we love Matthew and John) together. Choose a few chapters and discuss the questions you see playing out.
- Where does he spend the bulk of his time? What do you think that says about him?
- What does he prioritize on a regular basis? Why? Where do you see that in his life?
- What do you think he would deem "essential" if it came up during the day? Why? Where do you see that in his life?
- What are three things that you think he values most in life? Where do his actions showcase that? How?
- What do you think a "successful day" in Jesus' mind is? Does your daily life look like that?
- From how you answered the questions above, how would you define manhood based on Jesus' life and choices?
