The Heroic Journey of
Sonship &
Manhood
What is Manhood?
With leagues of information at our fingertips, many fathers strive, but never find a satisfying answer to this question. Thousands of voices claim the “right” response, but how do we know who is trustworthy? How do we have confidence that the path we walk leads to a full life? God’s story is clear. Our heavenly Dad blazed a way for us to follow, leading to all the answers we seek. The best fathers desire to alleviate the cultural confusion around manhood for themselves and their sons. They want to offer guidance, but something remains between these fathers and offering their sons the way to satisfying life as a man.
No father can lead their son on a path they’ve never taken.
No father can lead their son on a path they’ve never taken.
How can a father offer the Ancient Path if he has yet to walk it himself?
As we, at TNF, set out to offer true manhood to our sons, a realization left us unsettled. We weren't sure how to define it. We knew men are to be honorable, integritus, courageous, and loving, but that didn't settle some unspoken restlessness in our hearts. Something was missing.
God met us in the struggle and offered us an Ancient Path: intimacy. We found the truth of manhood in close proximity to him! Most men never step into intimacy and, instead, strive to guide themselves and their sons down a path they don’t know. That is why we created the Heroic Journey of Sonship and Manhood: to offer a clear glimpse at God’s Ancient Path.
The HJSM is a 12 month experience designed to lead fathers and sons (ages 13 through high school) into authentic manhood. They go on two adventures along the way, stopping at 12 waypoints to discuss the answers to two core-heart questions: Who am I? & How do I live?
At Waypoint 7, the pair go on a trip to Montana to experience God’s wild presence. Through the Journey, fathers walk ahead on the path then return to walk it again with their sons. This is the call to adventure: receive and offer true manhood through intimacy with our Creator. Only one question remains…
