God's Greater Story Discussion

- What did you enjoy most about the mini-adventure? Why?
- What did you enjoy least about the mini-adventure? Why?
- Did either of you have a direction in mind when you started each story? What were they? Were they ever realized?
- Son, did your dad's following sentence ever throw off a story you had in mind? Why or Why not?
- Dad, did your son's following sentence ever throw off a story you had in mind? Why or Why not?
- Did each story end how you thought it would? How did the stories' endings make you feel?
- How did your stories end? Were they good stories, or were they confusing, hilarious messes? (Though, maybe that is why they were good ;)
- Imagine if you had nine people writing this together. Would your direction for the story ever become a reality? Why or why not?
- How would you feel about that?
Chances are, your stories did not end as you thought they would. Son, you probably had a completely different narrative in mind than your dad's and vice versa. Now, imagine writing the story of your life. As an imposter, our stories look the way your stories did today. We go to various sources, asking them to write the following sentence. Maybe your friends write one sentence, then your basketball coach the next, your girlfriend, parents, professor, boss, etc. How do you think your story would look after so many sources have changed the direction of your life in ten to fifteen years? Wouldn't your story be confusing? With each source saying something different, you find your story in a tailspin, out of control, headed for the destination of destruction. Is that how we want our stories to end?
- What direction would you have written in if you could see every outcome for your stories?
- What would you have written differently if you knew the best ending to your stories? Why?
- If you had the pen to write your dad's real-life story and knew what direction to send him in that would be best for his heart, would you do everything in your power to help him write that life story?
You see, guys, your Creator sees your story. He knows all the choices you will make. He sees all the paths you could take. He knows every destination available to you, and he loves you desperately. You are his beloved son, and he will do EVERYTHING in his power to lead you onto His Path in His Greater Story. His path is the Path of the Heroic Journey. His path is the path of true Identity and authentic Manhood. His path is the path that leads back to our Garden State. His path is the Path to life to the full! Only our True Source knows the true Path into his Greater Story, the most fantastic story we could ever live. There is none like it, nor shall there ever be.
Further Discussion:
- After reading this, what other parallels do you see between your story and the mini-adventure this month? Do you see some of the other ideas from the "Truth of the Month" video in the movie? Discuss them together.
